Stainless Steel Brake Lines

An Easy Mod for Better Braking

One thing that I've noticed about the GT's brakes from day one was a slightly spongy pedal feel. The brakes do the job but they could be a lot better. Stainless steel braided brake lines will help improve the GT's braking. And at a reasonable cost! How will they help? Stock rubber brake lines are just inefficient. When brake pressure is applied some of the braking force is absorbed by the rubber hose as it expands. The older the car gets the worse this effect becomes... and the braking gets mushier and mushier. Stainless steel lines, on the other hand do not expand which means all of the braking force goes to the caliper. This results in a firmer brake pedal feel and hopefully more efficient braking. This upgrade used in conjuction with the GreenStuff pads should dramatically improve braking without going to the expense of costlier brake mods (big brake kit, ventilated discs).

SpeedMotion (the new Kore store) offers a really nice quality set of stainless steel braided teflon brake hoses for the GT. These DOT approved brake lines come complete with all fittings necessary and come in either silver, blue or red. Cost: around $110 US. Highly recommended!
