Making your Elantra GT Scream!

Let's face it, the one thing performance nuts crave is
power. Horsepower is king! And the most efficient (although costly) way to increase the power in our beloved GT is by
forced induction. The basic idea is to force-feed air into the engine at high pressure to dramatically increase power (forced
induction can easily increase power by a whopping 40% or more!). Superchargers are driven by the crankshaft, give
you instant torque and create a linear boost of hp. Superchargers do place an awful lot of additional pressure and
heat on your engine so this needs to be considered before purchasing one. Turbochargers are small gas turbines
and are driven by exhaust gases from the engine. Turbos do have one drawback... lag. It takes a while for the turbo to "spool
up" after the throttle is pressed. This rush can be quite exhilarating but it also makes driving a turbocharged car a little
trickier than a supercharged one.
Right now there are a few good choices for power craving owners of the Elantra
GT. KSpec has an excellent ($3,799) Garrett Turbo Kit for the 2.0 Beta engine. HP Shop has also begun selling Alpine Developments ($2,800-3,100) fine turbo and supercharger kits. These are all quality
applications for our car.
